Week One
Moving Toward Action
This lesson will allow your students to dive right into the meat of the book of James and examine where in their lives they are judging others unfairly and being lazy in their faith—and make strides to change those areas to closer line up with the life of Jesus.
Week Two
Moving Toward Change
This week your group will be encouraged and challenged to step up with some serious, practical movement in their faith and lives, just as James steps up with some serious, practical substance in his writing. You’ll explore together a small section of James’s letter that takes on large topics such as freedom, anger, obedience, integrity, and garbage. Yep, garbage.
Week Three
Moving Toward Wise Speech
Tongues. Tongues can do a lot of things: taste, contort, stick out at people, and pick leftover food out of our teeth. They can help us form words that aid us in blessing others or tearing others down. This lesson will take a serious look at how James warns us of the power of our words and how taming our tongue means so much more than simply saying, “Don’t say swear words!”
Week Four
Move
Once again rejecting nuance for clear and direct writing, James has a lot to say in chapter 5. We’ll take a look at all of it as we keep moving toward Jesus with our lives. In this final section of his letter, James gives both warnings and instructions regarding money, patience, prayer, and movement. The question for us in this lesson is: do we think these warnings and instructions apply to us here today?
Includes 4 lessons, instructions, and two slide templates for PowerPoint, Keynote, MediaShout, ProPresenter or another display system.
