The Psalms are a beautiful collection of poetry and songs from a variety of different authors that fully captures life in its fullest. Biblical and theological scholar Walter Brueggemann breaks down the Psalms into three categories that help capture this. Psalms of orientation are a declaration of worship of God because life is good and the way we would expect it to be. Psalms of disorientation, though, capture the opposite spectrum: anger and raw emotion directed towards God because life is tough. Then, Psalms of reorientation talk about how God moves us out of times of pain and back into a place of trusting God with our lives.

Viva! Psalms will look at these different kinds of Psalms and discuss how we can find and connect with God in different experiences in life.
