Mark's Gospel communicates a powerful picture of who Jesus was and is. In Mark 9:1-13, the story of the transfiguration is recorded, in which Jesus' divine glory was revealed, Moses and Elijah appeared with Him, and God appeared as a cloud and declared Him His Son. It's an incredible moment.
In the middle of this passage, Peter revealed a continuing lack of understanding; he only saw Jesus on the level of Moses and Elijah, which opens the conversation about what things we have put on the same level as Jesus, such as sports, school, friends, relationships, and the list could go on and on. Students will be challenged to see Jesus for who He really is, God the Messiah, and to let only Him have that spot of authority in their lives.
This message works with students, college-age, and adults.
