The Book of James is like a "how to" manual with practical application of our faith. In addition James is written with a "tell it like it is" approach. He presents biblical truths in a surprising manner (e.g. "Consider it pure joy when you face trials"). The running theme of this book is discovering that authentic faith is more than knowledge of facts; James presents how we can mature in an authentic faith. This series is composed of five messages (one from each chapter) that present five "shocking truths."
Week 1: "You should consider it a good thing when you face trials!"
This message helps students discover that trials are not without purpose. Trials are necessary to bring about spiritual maturity and Christ-likeness.
Week 2: "You should see naked people!"
This message helps students discover the importance of seeing the needs of other people. "It's easy to miss something you're not looking for."
Week 3: "You should cut out your tongue!"
This message helps students discover the power of the tongue can be destructive or have great influence. Our response to temptation is not based upon how hard we try, but on how well we train.
Week 4: "You should dump your friendship with the world!"
This message helps students discover that God's way and the world's way are in opposition to one another. Unfortunately, our friendship with the world comes from our own self-centered desire for pleasure.
Week 5: "You should share your dirty little secrets!"
This message helps students discover that confession is more than admitting you've done something wrong. Students will discover the importance of accountability.
