In this three-week series, you will work your way through the book of Nehemiah, which chronicles the third group of exiles making the long journey back to Jerusalem to start over. More specifically, it is a record of Nehemiah’s mission to rebuild the walls surrounding Jerusalem and restore a national identity. The key for us today, however, is Nehemiah’s prayer life. He stands out as a figure in Scripture who consistently turns to God in prayer regardless of the circumstances. Students will learn from his example how to pray, how God uses prayer to bring about change in our own lives, and what to do when the answer to our prayer is not what we hoped for.
Week 1: How to Pray
Prayer was a key part of Nehemiah’s life. Through his example, we learn to (1) pray with intention, (2) pray often, and (3) pray with confidence.
Week 2: Prayer Changes Us
When we make prayer a habit, we change to be more like God in (1) how we respond to hard times and (2) how we treat others.
Week 3: Go the Distance
When we don’t get the answers we hope for in prayer, God calls us to go the distance with Him by (1) turning to God, (2) praying for rest, and (3) giving it all to God.
