Kind of Funetik: American Revolution is a screen-based game in which students decipher kind-of-phonetically-written characters from the USA's beginning. This would be a great game around July 4th, Veteran's Day (November), or Memorial Day (May).
This can be played as an all-play crowd game, or put your own spin on it, or use one of the variations below.
Variation 1: Put a red hanky on a stool equidistant from your teams. When a student from a team wants to take a shot at the answer, he/she grabs the hanky and says the answer. This will add an extra angle to the competition.
Variation 2: If you don't have screen-capability, no problem. PDF files are included of handouts and answer keys.
