Many people are dying to live. What a crazy proposal, right? It is sort of a paradox or an oxymoron. Can we be dying to live? Many of us are ‘dying to live’ in all that we do. What I am saying here is that there are so many people in this world that are trying so many things and into so many things in an attempt to truly live. While we try everything from sports, to the arts, to academics, to being popular, to being anti-popular, to sometimes just being a bum at life, we are somehow making an attempt to live. In this mad dash, we make every effort in dying to live. In effect, though, instead of dying to live, we are just dying.Real bleak, isn’t it?
Jesus has something very profound to say about life and death, dying to live, and living to die, and this is the focus of the message:
“Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?’” (Matthew 16:24-26 NIV)
