Discovering Purpose is a teaching series to help with the ever-increasing identity issues that students—and, frankly, all humans—struggle with. We're all trying to discover a purpose in life, and this series speaks directly to that need.
Week 1 - Change your Label
Scripture: Judges 6:11, 2 Corinthians 5:17
In life, it seems we're always trying to obtain, shed, or redefine a label. Whether this is an accepted label, one that was given to us, or a label that we wear because of the people we hang out with, the problem is that it rarely, if ever, lines up with the label that God has given us.
Week 2 - Quit Comparing
Scripture: 1 Samuel 18:7-8, 2 Corinthians 10:12
This week aims to uncover the dangers of comparison. With the increased prevalence of social media in our culture, it's nearly impossible to not compare yourself with everything you see online. This week will teach students that when you compare, you lose.
Week 3 - The Antidote to Jealousy
Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:6-10, 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
If we're to shed our labels and quit comparing, how do we find contentment? There's one thing you can do to be OK with who God made you: start shifting your focus off of yourself and onto others. The antidote to jealousy? Generosity, which comes out of a posture of humility.
