Doug's note: I love this... I love the creativity and the heart behind this youth worker and product. Well done.
How do you connect with your students during the summer?
In our youth ministry, we do not meet weekly during the summer, but we want to continue connecting with students and connecting them with God’s Word.
The way we do that is by hosting youth group virtually every week in the summer. We use Periscope as our platform, but I’m sure any streaming service will do, so long as you can get your students to tune in weekly. We also save the videos and post them to Vimeo so that people who are unavailable during our broadcast time do not miss out. We track and incentivize attendance. We track it by giving them a key phrase to send us back in a private message each week. We incentivize it by putting the names of everyone who attends every week into Pick Me! in Sidekick. At our Fall Kickoff, we will pick one name to receive our big summer prize.
These eight lessons are intentionally shorter than our typical lessons. Part of the reason is that we do not want to lose their attention. The other part is because the shorter lessons allow time for sidetracking due to the live feedback we receive from our students.
