We all have our favorite verses—the ones that speak to us. We personalize them to fit our needs, struggles, hurts, and desires. However, the true meaning of the passage might become lost when we try to personalize it too much. While the Scripture is designed to mold us, speak to us, and guide us, the true character of God becomes lost when it becomes too much about US.
This series looks at five of the most popular verses throughout history. You will help your students uncover a much deeper meaning behind each passage by discovering who wrote it, when it was written, to whom it was written, and why it was written.
Week 1: Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
Week 2: Romans 8:28 – And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
Week 3: Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Week 4: Proverbs 3:5 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
Week 5:John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Additionally, you’ll lead your students to explore the surrounding texts and cross-references to provide a deeper clarity of who God is, and how He is calling us to live.
