This is a hard-hitting series that answers one of the most difficult questions we all have to wrestle through. If God is loving and all-powerful, why doesn't He come through for me when I need Him to? The series encourages students to not be afraid to think critically and wrestle with doubt, and also guides students toward shifting their worldview from being centered on what man wants to what God wants. Because of the depth of the topic, this series might be best suited for high school students, although it can work with middle school students also.
Week 1: Dirty Little Secret
Objective Statement: The reality that God doesn’t always “scream it loud” isn’t anything new. It isn’t some dirty little secret He’s been trying to keep hidden. God’s Word is clear that there are times when God seems silent. David, a man after God’s own heart, experienced those times too.
Week 2: God-View
Objective Statement: What are we asking for when we pray? God view of things is so much bigger than just making a situation better. God’s primary goal is not to make us happy. God’s primary goal is to be God.
Week 3: Perspective
Objective Statement: As human beings, we are the apex of our world. As far as we know, in the entire universe, we are the most intelligent beings we can see. So, if there’s a God, we’re naturally going to inspect that God’s work and see if it suits our fancy. However, we must go about our inspection with the right perspective.
Week 4: Heart > Ability
Objective Statement: Just like us, David went through some rough patches. But despite God not always responding the way David would have liked, David remained a man after God’s own heart. He didn’t allow his situation to suck him into being a man just after God’s ability. Our heart must be after God’s heart, not just His ability.
